About Me
Growing up I always had the desire to help people. I never really had any idea of exactly what I wanted to do, that is until my Junior year of high school, thanks to my best friend's mom. She was a social worker and said that the field sounded like it would fit me best. She told me everything I needed to know and from then on I knew that social work was going to be my career choice. I came to the University of Kentucky to pursue my social Work dreams as well as make new friends and get more involved in the community. As a freshman I'm just starting to get those things going, but I hope in four years I will be happy with my college experience as a whole and with my degree I'll be able to truly fulfill my dreams.

Before I came to college I didn’t really have any goals in mind. I just
wanted to survive the four years and be able to graduate and get a degree. It
wasn't until I got here that I realized college is so much more than that, and
that I actually really wanted to succeed. When I was able to really think about
my life plan, I made a couple short and long term goals. First I want to get
through this year with at least a 3.5 GPA and in the long term I want to be
able to graduate with really good grades so that I will be able to compete with
everyone in the job market. I first interviewed my best friend Marissa. She has
always been very motivated, and is really willing to put in as much time and
effort as necessary in order to succeed in school, as well as with other things
outside of school. She has on many occasions helped me get my work done or
helped me study for a test because she cares about my success too, which is
something I really admire about her. She attends Case Western Reserve
University in Cleveland, Ohio which is a very competitive school that focuses a
lot on your education. The work is hard but she is able to do it, so with her
help and advice she provided me in the interview, I'm hoping to get that 3.5
GPA. Although somethings in our universities are different, some are the same,
such as writing centers to help with papers and tutoring being available
(although unfortunately here at UK it isn't free like it is at Case Western.)
Whenever I encounter an issue with not understanding something or needing help
doing something I know that there's are resources and that they actually help
thanks to Marissa.
I interviewed my mom second. She was able to take care of me and manage
a full time job all while going to college. She was able to graduate in 5 years
and my hope is to graduate in 4 so I was hoping she could give me in some
advice on how to do that. She gave me some insight on how to balance my job and
my social life by telling me about her experiences in balancing life. She also
got me thinking about my major and what I can do to make a final decision about
what I want to do so that I won't be behind in my requirements. Her interview
really helped me to see what I can do and what I must think about in order to
graduate and get my degree in time.
I now have my goals
set and I hope that I’ll be able to achieve them. As they say, “it takes a
village,” and with the “village” of people close to me along with their help, I
will really be able to succeed in college.
Goal Statement
When I was younger, I always wanted to be a superhero. I planned it to
where I was going to go to find some toxic waste and roll in it so I could get
super powers. This was my dream until reality smacked me in the face.
Superheroes didn’t exist, but I soon found out there were other ways to be a
real hero. I could still help people like I always wanted, just with less
powers. That why I inevitably decided to come to the University of Kentucky to
pursue my dreams to become a social worker. My goal is to graduate from here with both
my Bachelors and Masters in social work, but before I do that I have to get
through my freshman year first. My goal for this year is to have the best
experience I can of course, but I still have to focus quite a bit on my school
work so I can advance on to the school of social work. I hope to become a
licensed clinical social worker so that I can become a therapist and help
people directly. It’ll obviously take me quite some time to get there but in 5
years I hope to be graduated with my Bachelors in social work
